Third Annual International Drive Relay for Life

Set for May 21-22, 2010 at Pointe Orlando on International Drive

ORLANDO, FL—The Third Annual International Drive Relay for Life is set for May 21-22 at I-Drive’s Point Orlando.

As the national fund-raising event of the American Cancer Society, this unique, fun-filled day- and-a- half offers everyone in the community an opportunity to participate in the fight against cancer. I-Drive Relay teams are formed from businesses, families, churches, friends and service organizations, all to support the American Cancer Society’s mission: eliminating cancer as a major health problem, saving lives and diminishing suffering from the disease. During the event, team members take turns walking around the track. Each participant is encouraged to raise at least $100.

Luann Brooks, executive director of the I-Drive Master Transit and Improvement District, will serve as the District’s team captain for 2010 and looks forward to increased participation and the dollars raised for this year’s event.

“We look forward to the support from our tourism industry for I-Drive Relay For Life at Pointe Orlando and to increasing our contribution to this important event for a disease that impacts all of us. In 2010, at least 1.3 million people will be diagnosed with some form of cancer. This is a very personal event for me and for the district staff as we have all been touched by this disease through family members, friends and neighbors. It is fitting that International Drive, a world famous family vacation destination, should be one of the area’s locations for Relay for Life.”

This year’s Event Chairperson is Ms. Shannon Clayton, Marketing Director for Pointe Orlando.

The I-Drive Relay for Life has raised over $75,000, combined, from its 2008 and 2009 events. Over the next several weeks, the individual teams will decide on themes for each team and special activities that will take place during the Relay event.
