What's Happening on I-Drive!

Pet-Friendly - International Drive Resort Area Has Gone to the Dogs (and cats)!

This Pet-Friendly Destination Welcomes
Four-Legged Family Members

It started way before Paris Hilton was seen everywhere from her RV to the red carpet with her pampered pooch. Americans are crazy about their pets and many can’t stand the thought of being away from them when they take a vacation.

That is why the International Drive Resort Area, rolls out the welcome for pets and their animal-loving owners! Some examples of what individual accommodations offer are listed below. There is something available for every budget from resorts to value-priced properties. Be sure to check specific accommodations for price information and requirements.

At the Sheraton World Resort, pets up to 60 pounds are welcome. The hotel even provides a special bed and a bowl for food and water. There is an area for pet walking.

Popular among those traveling with pets, the Masters Inn is happy to check in pets up to 20 pounds. They ask that they be placed in a kennel when they are left alone in the room.

Known for its pet-friendly hospitality, the Loews Hotels at Universal Orlando Resort unleashed its “Loews Loves Pets” program in 2000 at the Portofino Bay Hotel, the Royal Pacific Resort and the Hard Rock Hotel. Pets are treated like vip’s in these luxury properties where they have their own special mat, food and water bowl, toys and treats. A room service menu is available for your furry friends and a “Do Not Disturb” sign is posted on the door when mom and dad are out. A map is available to indicate “pet friendly” walking areas. There is no weight limit and deposit is not required. The resorts require proof of inoculations.

The Quality Inn Plaza, located a block from the Orange County Convention Center and the Quality Inn International both welcome pets weighing up to 50 pounds. Residence Inn SeaWorld International Center, Residence Inn Convention Center and Residence Inn by Marriott Orlando I-Drive, all accept pets up to 30 pounds.

The Wyndham Orlando Resort allows up to two pets with a 50 pound weight limit per pet. Proof of current inoculations is required.

All three La Quinta Inns in the I-Drive area allow pets up to 80 pounds. Locations are La Quinta at Universal, La Quinta Inn & Suites Orlando Convention Center and La Quinta Inn Orlando International Drive.

Heading to the theme parks? Pets may be checked into onsite kennels at both SeaWorld Adventure Park Orlando and Universal Studios Florida, the charge is $10 per day. Both kennels are air-conditioned and require proof of inoculations and request that owners bring food and return to the kennel to walk pets during the day.

In addition to finding the right accommodations for you and your pet from among the many offered in the I-Drive area, the following tips will make traveling with your pet easy and enjoyable:
  • Check with specific accommodations to make sure they are “pet friendly.” Ask about extra charges for your pet to stay in your hotel room. Inquire about rules for leaving your pet alone during the day. Ask about areas for walking.
  • Visit the vet before your trip and pick up inoculation records. Many accommodations will require them. Ask your vet to recommend a vet in the area you will be traveling and make a note of the phone number.
  • Make sure your pet is wearing identification that includes: pet's name, your name and address and a phone number. Make sure it is a cell phone and not your home phone.
  • Bring items that are familiar to your pet: a pet bed, blanket, favorite toy and their favorite treats to help them feel comfortable in unfamiliar surroundings.
