The recent 8th Annual I-Drive 5k Run raised more than $10,000 to benefit the YMCA Aquatic Center Learn to Swim Scholarship program. The event which encompassed a 3.1 mile run through the heart of I-Drive, drew 1,060 runners. Sponsors included I-Ride Trolley, Pointe Orlando, Orlando Convention and Visitors Bureau, SeaWorld, Peabody Orlando, Rosen Hotels, Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Orange County Fire and Rescue, Whole Foods at Dr. Phillips Crossing, Gatorland and Crowne Plaza Hotel.
Ana Murillo, promotions manager of the I-Drive Master Transit & Improvement District and this year’s 5K chairperson, says the run helps to provide opportunities for residents of all age groups who might not otherwise be able to participate in these valuable YMCA programs.
"Each year the Central Florida YMCA teaches aquatics and swim safety to more than 17,000 children locally, at twenty-seven pools in a six county area. Through this fund, children, families, and seniors receive YMCA scholarships so that they can participate in these health and character-based programs during periods of financial challenge."
